Trying to explain this to my Little Man was tough so I came up with an example that he could follow and wanted to share it with you. Think "boys and cool cars," if you will.
Let's say God has a really cool car ... one of a kind. EVERYONE in town knows that this is God's car when they see it rolling down the street. They can hear God's music playing, see God's rims spinning - I mean, this is THE hottest car there is. So God gives me the keys to his awesome ride and says, "I love you so I trust you with this car, my pride and joy, my favorite car, to drive until I need it up in Heaven."
Wow! What an honor!!
So I'm driving God's car (in Little Man's case, it's a black sports car with yellow stripes ... boys).
Now, am I driving down Monroe Street, blasting junk music, throwing my straw wrappers in the floor, spilling coffee, dropping french fries and donut sprinkles all over the place in God's car? HECK no! Am I going to let God's car sit out in the driveway getting bird poop and snow and all the elements on it while my car is safe in the garage? No way, Man! Am I going to let other people drive God's car? No, but you better believe I'm going to show it to them and say, "Hey Dude, look at this awesomeness .... Yeah, it's God's. He trusts me enough to drive it," and then I might take them for a ride in it. When God's car gets dirty, am I going to drive it through the cheap car wash? Nope .... I'm washing and waxing this baby myself to make sure it's done right! I'm not going to drive God's car down bad roads - even though we DO live in Michigan and sometimes you just can't avoid it - because I know how bad roads can tear up a car. Rest assured that the oil changes would be on time too and only the BEST gas goes in God's ride! And I want folks to know that this is God's car.
So .... why is it, that I don't do this with my own body? Or my own LIFE? This body, this life .... they're on loan. In my own personal case, on loan from my Highest, God Almighty. This story I told to my Little Man didn't just explain it to him, but it also woke me up a bit today. It's Spring now. It's time to wash and wax and pay attention to those pot holes!
Sure ... there will be dings and accidents along the way and maintenance needs to be done. And you never know when someone else is going to slam into you in the grocery store parking lot, but guess what .... God has GREAT insurance! ;)
