Ya know how no matter how you store bananas there is always one that turns brown before the others? I love barely ripe bananas . . . almost still green. Since I can remember, when going into the kitchen looking for a snack, no matter what my options were or who else may have been home, I would choose the banana that was brown, on the bottom, the mushiest one to eat. As I ate it, I would stare at the bananas on the top of the bunch that were just out of the green and in my opinion, perfect. I always left those yummy bananas for everyone else, even though they're my favorite because I hate wasting food for one thing, but mostly because I know everyone else likes them too. It was a small silent sacrifice for my family.
A few years ago, as I was preoccupied with a "spot" on my back that I was certain was skin cancer again (even though my doc swore it was a fungus that I wasn't treating correctly - by the way, I was right), I reached for that mushiest brown banana. Something hit me . . . I've been through some stuff! Some real stuff that I look at as lessons or tests. Know what? I passed them all . . . I'm still here. That's my proof. And ya know what else? I DESERVE THE GOOD BANANA! So I took the one that was still just a little bit green, and enjoyed the BEST banana I've had in my entire life!
It seems silly now and crazy to some, but I will not eat those mushy bananas any more because I don't have to! I have earned the good ones and will settle for nothing less!
(However, the mushy ones are great in pancakes & banana bread because I still hate wasting food)!
